Speaking Truth Boldly in a World That Needs It

Matthew 10:19–20 (NLT®)“When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.”
We live in a world where ungodly behaviour is not only tolerated but often celebrated. In moments like this, it’s tempting to shake our heads at the culture around us and blame “the world” for its decline. Yet Scripture reminds us to start by looking in the mirror.
Do I stay silent when sin is applauded? Do I keep my head down when godliness is mocked? Or do I speak up—sharing words of truth and love that reflect the heart of God?
It’s easy to expect pastors, evangelists, and spiritual leaders to be bold. But Jesus didn’t give that assignment to a select few—He gave it to all His followers. Each of us has a sphere of influence: our family, workplace, community, and friendships. It’s in those everyday places that God calls us to live out His truth.
Of course, speaking truth isn’t always popular. Jesus Himself warned that His followers would face opposition. Yet He also gave us a promise: “the Spirit of your Father will be speaking through you.” We don’t have to rely on our own clever words or perfect arguments. God Himself equips us to speak with courage and clarity when the moment comes.
That means we can find the strength to have the hard conversation in the break room. We can gently but firmly uphold biblical truth when compromise is easier. We can shine a light in the darkness—not because of our own boldness, but because the Spirit of God empowers us.
Think About It
As our culture slides deeper into confusion and depravity, silence is no longer an option. The world doesn’t need more voices cheering for compromise—it needs people willing to stand for truth, even when it’s costly.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be bold for You. Help me to be a leader in my sphere of influence. Teach me to celebrate righteousness and truth, and give me the courage to call out sin when it’s paraded as good. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that my words are not my own, but Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.
