Trusting God’s Purpose & Power
Exodus 3:10–11 (NIV®)
“So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
Devotional: When God Calls, Trust His Power
Moses is remembered as one of the greatest leaders in the Bible—second only to Jesus. Yet when God first called him to confront Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of slavery, Moses doubted himself deeply.
From Moses’ perspective, the doubts made sense. He had grown up in Pharaoh’s palace, but his past was messy. He had killed an Egyptian in anger, fled the country, and built a quiet life in Midian. He was no longer a prince—he was a shepherd. Content, settled, and far removed from Egypt.
So when God spoke, Moses’ response was honest and human: “Who am I that I should go?”
But God wasn’t asking Moses to rely on his past, his position, or his confidence. God was inviting Moses to trust His purpose and His power.
Moses saw his weaknesses. God saw his calling.
In the same way, when God invites us to step into something new—serving, leading, forgiving, speaking, starting—we often respond with hesitation. We focus on what we lack, what we’ve done wrong, or what feels impossible.
Yet God already knows what we are capable of—because His power is made perfect in our weakness.
When God calls, our role is not to have all the answers. Our role is simply to say yes.
Think About It
Let’s resist the temptation to doubt God’s purposes or His provision. Every invitation from God comes with the power to fulfill it.
Our assignment is obedience. God takes care of the outcome.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your purpose and plan for my life. Nothing about me is hidden from You, and You know my capabilities better than I do. Help me recognize Your invitations and give me the courage to obey You fully. I choose to lay aside doubt and anything that hinders me, so I can serve You with an undivided heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
