In this day and age the tendency is to think of oneself more than others. However our sense of self-worth is only really realised in how we look after each other.
In giving up part of one's life, sacrificing one's own resources and energy to meet the needs of another person. This shows love and concern for those close to you and in our society. We have heroes who laid down their lives to preserve our nation.
Selfish ambition is when someone is motivated by their own interests and puts themselves above others. Vain conceit is when someone has excessive pride or an exaggerated sense of self.
On the other hand we can be: humble and not be conceited or proud• Not be overly ambitious• Focus on others, not on themselves• Consider the needs of others as well as their own• Make choices that benefit the greater good, even if it means personal sacrifice
We have in our lives the examples of our mothers and fathers who in giving us life have given of themselves to give us life and a home to live in. We do the same for our children.
We should have the same attitude as Christ Jesus, who humbled himself and became obedient to death.
