“I am the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.” – Leviticus 11:45 (NIV)
When God invites us into relationship with Him, He also invites us into holiness—a way of living that reflects who He is. But what exactly is holiness, and how do we live it out?
We understand many of God’s attributes through our human experience. We’ve met wise people, and through them, we can imagine God's wisdom. We’ve seen the fierce power of a storm or the steady strength of mountains, and we grasp God’s might. We see the tender love of a parent, and we gain a glimpse of His compassion.
But holiness? That’s harder to picture. It doesn’t exist naturally in us or the world around us. Holiness is set apart, pure, and undefiled—something entirely God’s own character. And yet, He calls us to it.
We see His holiness in:
His righteousness—never bending the truth or compromising.
Jesus’ life—sacrificial, loving, obedient.
The Holy Spirit’s work in us—guiding, convicting, refining.
God’s invitation to holiness isn’t confined to our time in church or during morning devotions. It reaches into every part of our lives—our words, choices, relationships, finances, and free time. Holiness is about aligning ourselves with God’s heart in every situation.
That might sound overwhelming, but here’s the truth: Holiness isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being set apart for God, daily choosing His way over our own. He knows we can’t do it alone. That’s why He sent the Holy Spirit—to teach, empower, and transform us.
💭 Think About It:
If your family or close friends were asked to describe your actions, would they see a reflection of Christ? What needs to shift so that more of your life aligns with God’s holiness?
🙏 Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I choose Your best! Teach me to walk in paths of righteousness and to honour Your Word. Keep me far from deception, and deliver me from temptation. My desire is to live uprightly before You, to be pleasing in Your sight, and to fulfill all You created me to do. Holy Spirit, give me an understanding heart and the discernment to recognize the truth. In Jesus' name, amen.
