Grounded in God's Truth

Windswept tree under dark clouds with sunbeams. Text: "Faith moves mountains - Matthew 17:20, He is my rock - Psalm 62:6". Mood: serene.
Every generation faces challenges to the Christian faith, but perhaps none more subtle - and therefore dangerous- than the one we face today.

We live in a time when information is plentiful but truth is increasingly treated as flexible. People pick beliefs the way they choose items from a buffet: “I’ll take this part… but not that part,” shaping a faith that is comfortable, convenient, and ultimately compromised. But God’s Word warns us about this.

Ephesians 4:14–15 (NLT) says:

“We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching… Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ.”

These verses paint a vivid picture: a ship at sea, directionless, drifting wherever the waves push it. That is what happens when we lose grip on the truth—when we allow culture, emotions, or popular opinion to steer our beliefs.

But Scripture offers a better way:

Truth that anchors.

Truth that stabilises.

Truth that leads to maturity in Christ.

The Danger of Negotiating God’s Truth

Negotiation is valuable in life. In business. In relationships. In conflict resolution. But there is no room for negotiation when it comes to the foundations of our faith. Yet many believers—without always realising it—have done just that.

1. Negotiating the Authority of Scripture

Some accept the comforting passages while quietly ignoring the challenging ones. Some view the Bible as “inspiring” but not “authoritative. ”This mindset slowly removes the very anchor God gave us to navigate life.

When you decide which parts of the Bible matter and which don’t, you stop following God and start following yourself.

2. Negotiating the Identity of Jesus

Culturally, it has become fashionable to view Jesus as a wise man, a moral teacher, a spiritual guide. But the divinity of Christ is not optional. It is not a negotiable doctrine. It is the centre of the gospel. If Jesus wasn’t God, then His sacrifice carries no saving power.

3. Negotiating the Reality of Sin

Many prefer a softened version of faith—one where conviction is replaced with comfort and holiness takes a back seat to personal preference.

Sin becomes “struggles.” Disobedience becomes “imperfection. ”Compromise becomes “being real." But when sin loses its seriousness, grace loses its value.

The Great Drift: Wandering Without Realising It

Most people don’t walk away from God in a single moment. They drift—slowly, subtly, quietly.

A missed prayer here. A “small” compromise there. A Scripture taken out of context. A YouTube preacher who sounds spiritual but rejects biblical foundations.

And little by little, they find themselves standing far from the faith they once professed. But here is the mercy of God: If you feel a tug, a stirring, a holy discomfort—it is God calling you back.

Back to truth. Back to conviction. Back to Himself.

Truth Isn’t Meant to Harm You — It’s Meant to Free You

Contrary to popular belief, biblical truth is not restrictive. It is liberating.

Truth sets boundaries that protect you. Truth exposes lies that would destroy you. Truth strengthens you to stand when life shakes you. Truth guides you when emotions mislead you.

Lies may feel comfortable, but comfort cannot save a soul. Opinions may feel empowering, but opinions cannot transform a life. Only truth has the power to make you more like Christ.

Your Assignment: Don’t Negotiate With Evil — Overcome It

There is no neutral ground in the spiritual realm. We are either moving toward truth or drifting toward deception.

That’s why the Bible commands us to stand firm, not blend in. To cling to truth, not dilute it. To speak the truth in love, but speak it nonetheless.

Jesus didn’t endure the cross so we could live timidly. He rose from the dead so we could walk in spiritual authority.

He gave us His name. He gave us His Spirit. He gave us His victory.

Your assignment is not to survive spiritual darkness. Your assignment is to overcome it.

Returning to Truth: A Heart Posture God Honours

If you sense God calling you to examine your beliefs and align them again with Scripture, you are not alone—and you are not condemned.

This stirring is a sign of His love. A sign that He is awakening you. A sign that He sees you, values you, and is ready to strengthen you for what lies ahead.

Here is the beautiful part: God never exposes compromise to shame you, but to restore you.

And restoration begins with honesty:

  • “Lord, I’ve been compromising.”

  • “I’ve been afraid of people’s opinions.”

  • “I’ve softened Your truth to avoid discomfort.”

  • “I’ve allowed culture to shape me more than Your Word.”

God responds to honesty with healing. He responds to repentance with revival. He responds to humility with power.
