Created In Gods Image

Published 25 June 2026

Every human life carries a profound truth rooted in Scripture: we are created in God's image. Genesis 1:27 reminds us, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” This truth shapes how we see ourselves and others. It defines our value, purpose, and dignity beyond any worldly measure.

This week, as we reflect on this foundational truth, we face a reality that challenges us deeply. Four years ago, the United States witnessed a historic shift with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. For many believers, it was a moment of answered prayer. Yet, abortion remains a pressing issue, especially with the rise of chemical abortions accessible by mail. This ongoing struggle calls us to remember that laws can change behavior, but only Jesus can transform hearts.

The Meaning of Being Created in God’s Image

To be created in God’s image means every person reflects something of God’s nature. This is not about physical appearance but about spiritual and moral qualities. It means humans have:

  • Intrinsic value that no one can take away

  • The ability to reason, love, and make moral choices

  • A unique relationship with God as His creation

Before a person has a name, a job, or any status, they already have worth because God made them. This truth stands firm regardless of age, health, ability, or circumstance.

Why Human Life Is Sacred

Because we bear God’s image, human life is sacred from conception to natural death. This belief shapes how Christians view life issues, including abortion, care for the vulnerable, and justice for the oppressed.

  • Every child in the womb reflects God’s image and deserves protection.

  • Every mother and father carry God’s image and need support and compassion.

  • Every person affected by abortion, whether physically or emotionally, matters deeply.

This sacredness calls the Church to act—not just to speak, but to live out grace and truth.

The Church’s Role in Defending Life and Showing Compassion

The Church must balance courage and compassion. Defending life means standing firmly for the unborn, but it also means supporting women and families facing difficult situations. This includes:

  • Praying for healing and guidance

  • Serving through crisis pregnancy centers and community outreach

  • Giving resources to families in need

  • Fostering and adopting children who need homes

  • Mentoring and encouraging those affected by abortion

True compassion protects life and offers hope. It refuses to let the world define what grace looks like.

The Need for Spiritual Renewal

Legal changes are important, but they cannot change hearts alone. The rise in chemical abortions shows that laws do not end the underlying struggles people face. The deepest need is spiritual renewal—a turning to Jesus Christ who offers truth, mercy, and transformation.

Our culture needs to encounter Jesus’ love and conviction. Only then can we see lasting change in how life is valued and protected.

Living Out the Truth That We Are Created in God’s Image

Understanding that we are created in God’s image should affect every part of our lives:

  • How we treat others: with respect and dignity, regardless of differences

  • How we view ourselves: with confidence and humility, knowing our worth comes from God

  • How we engage in society: advocating for justice and life with grace and truth

This truth calls us to action and reflection. It challenges us to live in a way that honors God’s image in ourselves and others.
